EVENT: 4th of July Parade

As the days become warmer and June comes to a close, both locals and visitors alike are gearing up for America’s Birthday.  Many view the 4th of July as the unofficial start to summer, where friends and family come together to celebrate the birth of our country. 

The iconic Edgartown 4th of July parade is one of the main events of the summer.  The island swells to capacity with the population increasing from a mere 10,000 to over 100,000. 

The parade is a longstanding tradition on the island, featuring classic cars decked out in festive garb.  The houses lining the parade route are all adorned the finest Americana decor, bring out the patriotic spirit in all who attend. 

The festivities begin promptly at 5pm, for your enjoyment it is encouraged that you arrive early to line the parade route with your chairs and blankets.  Following the parade, onlookers are invited to the Dr. Daniel Fisher House on Mainstreet for a traditional American BBQ.  The BBQ is graciously sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust in conjunction with the town of Edgartown. 

After you have had your fill of American staples, you can head down to the water to watch the spectacular firework display.  The colors light up the sky dazzling over the glistening water, making onlookers stop to catch their breath at the sheer beauty of it all. 

This is one event that you definitely don’t want to miss!


July 4th schedule for Edgartown:
3 PM Main St, N Water, Fuller, & Morse St closed to parking
4 PM Main St closed to vehicle traffic (Main St opens after parade, N Water from Winter St to lighthouse closed until after fireworks)
5 PM Parade
Fireworks start @ dusk. Handicap parking for fireworks allowed at lot @ Edg yacht club

EVENT: Meals In The Meadow 7/13

If you are looking for an exciting summer event on the Vineyard look no further.  Saturday, July 13th, 2019 from 5-9pm The Trustees of the Reservations are hosting their annual farm to table dinner and dancing program.  The event benefits the Farm Based Education Program at the FARM Institute. 

Cocktail hour begins at 5pm and will feature a spread of local fare, as well as, a silent auction.  In addition, there will be demonstrations provided by campers showcasing what they learned at the FARM program.  A dinner thoughtfully prepared by Jan Buhrman and the team at Kitchen Porch will follow cocktails.  The evening will also include a speaking program as well as lively entertainment provided by the Sultans of Swing.

Sponsorships starting at $1,250 are welcome.  Individual tickets are $225 per person.

This event promises to be a memorable evening and will provide much needed support for the local organization.  The FARM which is known for its varied educational programs and community events is debuting a new state of the art kitchen, and educational space this summer.  During the day the space will be used by the children involved in the summer programming, and at night the space will transform into a community space, offering lectures, and classes by guest chefs both local and from off the island. The kitchen features commercial grade equipment that is designed to be mobile, so each instructor can customize the space to fit their specific needs.  This community staple will need continued support as they expand programming in the new kitchen.

More than 30 years ago, The Taste of the Vineyard, or “The Taste” as it is affectionately known, was started by the Vineyard Trust as a fund raiser for the restoration of the newly acquired Flying Horses Carousel. It’s a grand 2-night affair that kicks-off the Island’s social season in early June each year.  The event has grown exponentially in popularity and participation over the years and is now the most important annual fundraiser for the Vineyard Trust, a  501 (c) (3) charitable organization. By supporting the Taste, you are supporting the preservation of twenty historic landmark buildings and scenic landscapes like the Flying Horses Carousel, Alley’s General Store and the Old Whaling Church which are in the Trust’s stewardship.

On Thursday evening, Taste will welcome over 1,000 attendees to the Taste of the Vineyard Gourmet Stroll on the sprawling lawns of the Dr. Daniel Fisher House.  More than 90 participants will gather in a series of tents, including the Island’s finest restaurants, caterers and beverage purveyors. It’s a wonderful opportunity to sample the island’s best food, wine and hand-crafted beers. Each guest picks up a complimentary wine glass and buffet tray at the entrance then noshes and sips their way through the amazing displays of tasty treats and fine beverages.  After you’ve had a “Taste” from more than 90 outstanding fine food and beverage participants, you can dance the night away with Jerry Bennett and the Sultans of Swing.

Two nights later the Taste switches gears, and transform the tents to host the Taste of the Vineyard Patrons’ Party and Auction—an elegant evening that offers a delectable menu by the Vineyard’s most popular caterer V. Jaime Hamlin & Sons, hand crafted cocktails, a silent auction and a live auction.

The Silent Auction offers guests and incredible opportunity to win coveted items offered for bid, followed by a live auction with legendary emcee Trip Barnes!
